Royal Sutton AC athlete Nick Corker lead a record field of nearly 900 runners home in the Florette Fradley 10K race.
Corker set a fast pace from the start and remained in the front two throughout the event last Sunday.
Ashley Hurdman proved to be strong competition though, as the pair were tied at the end of the first lap but the Sutton racer then eased away to win a time of 32:37 minutes, with Hurdman second at 33:20 minutes and Richard Whitelegg of Hinckley AC in third at 33:32 minutes.
First woman home was Long Eaton RC’s Sarah Harris in 35:36 minutes finishing sixteenth overall and she was followed by Derby AC athlete Rachel Olivant in 38:08 minutes with Foxy Dawson the third placed female at 38:13 minutes.
The Florette Fradley Junior 2k race was won by Harry Whitelake in 8:02 minutes. First girl home was Lucy Harris in 8:30 minutes.
Kevin Wilson of organisers KP Events was delighted to see how popular the event has become: “Entries were 20 per cent up on 2011 which in turn was a record entry in itself,” he said.
“It’s great to see Fradley on the map so to speak and great for Florette as sponsors – the bag and water bottle given to every participant was a very welcome addition!”
Niki Webster, brand manager at Florette, added: “There was a fantastic atmosphere on Sunday and the whole team here at Florette was proud to be involved as sponsor.
“To achieve a record entry again this year speaks volumes for how popular the event is and it’s for good reason.
“I took part in the race with a team from the office, so we got to experience the Fradley 10K first hand and really enjoyed ourselves.”
