Bus passengers in Lichfield and Burntwood are facing changes to some of their services later this month.
Arriva has confirmed a number of changes to routes serving the area, with some seeing an increase in services, while others will be axed completely.
The company said the changes needed to be made in order to “better match the service level needed”, as well as improving punctuality and reliability.
The changes will take effect from 29th June and include:
- null
- The number 60 between Cannock, Chasetown and Lichfield – increase to every 15 minutes from Monday to Saturday.
- Introduction of a 60a service with stops through Hawks Green, Heath Hayes and Norton Canes.
- Complete withdrawal of the 61 and 61a services due to “low numbers travelling to and from Lichfield”.
- Service 62 and 62a to run between Cannock and Cannock Wood rather than continuing on to Lichfield.
“Punctual, reliable services”
Simon Mathieson, area managing director for Arriva Midlands North, said the changes were decided after a review of demand.
“We have an excellent core network throughout Staffordshire which we remain incredibly proud of,” he said. “Our intention with these changes is to build on that and create a bus network that is as successful as it can be, which in turn will give us a good grounding from which to grow in the future.
“What we have done is to look at areas where we can improve operationally and make the necessary alterations which will not only better match the service level needed, but also ensure our customers are able to benefit from more punctual, reliable services, linking the areas they most need to get to, at the times they need to travel.
“While this will see some reductions in, or withdrawal from service where passenger levels are low, we will also be introducing a number of new journeys where feedback has indicated they are needed.
“We continue to be committed to reinvesting in key routes and communities where buses provide vital and necessary connections, and in an age where there is an ever greater number of travel options for our customers, we are determined to make sure we are listening and responding accordingly to deliver a strong network that is both fit for purpose and able to evolve.”
