Lichfield and Burntwood’s returning officer has urged people to make sure they vote tomorrow – despite calls from a parliamentary candidate to boycott the ballot box.
Class War’s Andy Bennetts has previously said voting is a waste of time, insisting Michael Fabricant is guaranteed to retain his seat for the Conservatives.
He said: “We’re having more of a pantomime than an election, where career minded politicos try to make a good impression with their party in the hope of being selected to fight a seat they have a chance of winning in the future.
“No one is contesting this election to win. Not even us. This election is a lot of b******s.
“Don’t vote – it is a waste of time.”
But Diane Tilley, the acting returning officer for Lichfield District Council said people should use the opportunity to have their say.
“It is vital that all registered voters exercise their democratic right and cast their vote,” she said. “Even if you don’t feel strongly about any political party or individual representative, voting does ensure a fairer system for all.”
Polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm tomorrow (May 7) for parliamentary and local elections.
Candidates for the Lichfield constituency in the parliamentary elections are:
