A FORMER caravan sales yard could be converted into a new petrol station.

Plans have been submitted to Lichfield District Council for the one-time Canwell Caravans site on London Road.

The redevelopment would see a new retail store and petrol station, along with two jet wash bays.

The site would have 17 parking spaces and two accessible ones. Access would remain as it currently is, with the exit and entry on London Road to the west of the site.

A planning statement said:

"The proposed development would not have a greater impact upon the openness of the green belt.

"Should the council consider that the proposals do impact on the openness of the green belt, then the applicant asserts that the economic, social and environmental benefits associated with the scheme would outweigh any perceived harm."

Documents state that five full-time jobs will be created and that the development will generate tax revenue to fund local infrastructure, schools and other public services.

A transport assessment predicts that 63 vehicles will use the site on weekday mornings and 62 on weekday evenings. On weekends, this is expected to fall to 54 .

Full details can be found on Lichfield District Council's planning website.
