IMPROVEMENTS to a Burntwood petrol station including the installation of ultra-rapid chargers for electric vehicles have been approved.
The development at the Morrisons store on Milestone Way will see a bigger sales building constructed.
The existing jet wash and car wash area will be demolished to make way for a charging zone for electric vehicles, new jet wash bays and associated works.
A Lichfield District Council planning report into the proposals said:
“Officers consider the re-working of the existing forecourt to provide four jet-washing bays and a valet bay to be minor in scale, and should serve to improve the layout and circulation of vehicles within the site.
“The rest of the proposed development focuses on the regeneration of the petrol filling station, the re-siting and reworking of existing facilities available in this location, the provision of six ultra-rapid electric vehicle charging points with 12 associated parking bays together with an increase in floorspace of the sales building to provide additional services and facilities to all visitors but specifically to those charging their vehicle.
“Therefore, the development is not just intended to serve existing customers who are based locally, but also be an attractive proposition to those who may be on a longer journey and require a stop off.
“The provision of the six ultra-rapid charging pods in this location is considered to be a significant public benefit and has potential to bring people into Burntwood’s town centre in a way which will support the local economy.
“Ultra-rapid chargers of the sort proposed here are relatively scarce relative to rapid chargers, thus making them attractive propositions for owners of electric vehicles with ultra-rapid charging capabilities.”
