Police confirm controlled explosion has taken place after discovery of World War Two bomb at quarry

Homes were evacuated and roads closed while specialists carried out operation.

A CONTROLLED explosion has been carried out by specialists after a suspected World War Two bomb was found at a quarry in Barton-under-Needwood.

Some residents were evacuated from their homes near the Walton Lane site as specialists carried out the operation to make the ordnance safe.

Nearby roads, including the A38, were also shut while the controlled explosion took place this evening (6th August).
