POLICE are urging drivers to take extra care as a weather warning for snow and ice was put in place across Staffordshire.
An amber cold health alert has been issued for Staffordshire, with temperatures set to fall to as low as -4.5C in some areas.
Chief Inspector Scott McGrath, from Staffordshire Police, said drivers should plan ahead if they need to travel over the weekend.
“To ensure you protect yourselves and other road users from the impact of icy roads, we suggest that you take a number of precautions.
“Clear your car of ice and snow, including the windscreen, rear window, wing mirrors and roof, before driving. Maintain extra distance from other vehicles and allow for extra braking time.
“Don’t start driving until the windscreen is fully defrosted and avoid driving altogether if weather conditions are extreme.”
