Politicians have put their rivalries aside to help a Burntwood woman regain her independence.
Janice Curbishley was left virtually housebound after a kerb prevented her from getting her mobility scooter from her house onto the street.
Her daughter Sarah Smart contacted Cllr Heather Tranter, Conservative deputy leader of Burtnwood Town Council, who then spoke to local county council representative, UKIP’s Jeff Sheriff who agreed to use part of his Local Community Fund to pay for a dropped kerb to be installed.
Cllr Tranter said: “I am delighted for Janice and her family as she now has her independence back.
“Thanks also to Cllr Sheriff for his prompt assistance in this matter – from my initial call to him he had a decision in principle back from the county council within the working day.”
The UKIP representative said he was happy to be able to help.
“This is a perfrect example of why the Local Community Fund was set up and I’m pleased to have been able to assist Mrs Curbishley.”
