PLANS have been submitted for a new petrol station and drive-thru coffee shop on land previously used to store coal for the former Rugeley Power Station.
EG On The Move Limited is seeking permission for the roadside services on land off Power Station Road.
The plot is located next to the site of a proposed new Lidl foodstore, which was granted permission in 2022. Work to construct that outlet got underway earlier this year.
A planning statement submitted as part of the roadside services application to Cannock Chase District Council said:
"There is an identifiable need for the proposed development. This application seeks full planning permission for the demolition of existing structures and erection of a roadside services facility, comprising a petrol filling station, a kiosk unit, a drive thru unit, EV charging spaces, car parking, and various infrastructure.
"While there is currently no built development on the site, it was previously used for the storing of coal for the Rugeley Power Station. This power station ceased operation in June 2016 and has since been demolished; it therefore comprises long term, vacant brownfield land.
"The proposed development will enable the redevelopment of a prominent site and ensure a continued active economic use. It will result in significant economic benefits by way of the creation of circa 40 to 45 new jobs."
