A DEFEATED by-election candidate says voters have shown there is still “a strong appetite for something different”.
Reform UK’s Andrew Clissett finished second in the Armitage with Handsacre vote which was won by Martyn Punyer as the Conservatives held on to the seat which had been vacated by Nikki Hawkins.
The two candidates were separated by 199 votes in the ballot for the seat at Lichfield District Council.
But despite not taking the win, the Reform UK candidate – who currently sits as a member of Staffordshire County Council – said residents had made their voices heard.
“Thank you to the 431 residents who put their trust in me and voted for change. I am genuinely grateful for every single vote, message of support and conversation along the way.
“While this wasn’t the result we hoped for, this campaign showed that there is a strong appetite for something different, and that message has been heard loud and clear.
“I would like to congratulate Martyn Punyer, the Conservative candidate, on his win and wish him well in representing the community. I sincerely hope he will work in the best interests of all residents.
“I will continue to work hard as county councillor for Burntwood North and will also continue working closely with the parish council in Armitage and Handsacre to support local residents.”
