A report has backed plans to remodel a Lichfield golf course.
Whittington Heath Golf Club said the existing layout would be “severed” in two by the construction of the HS2 line through the area.
As a result, plans were submitted to Lichfield District Council to remodel more than a third of the course and create a new clubhouse.
Some local residents had raised concerns about the development, but a planning officer’s report has backed the proposals.
“The impact of the development on neighbouring occupiers has been assessed,” the report said. “I consider the development will not result in unacceptable impact upon the amenities of occupiers of nearby residential properties by reason of overlooking, over-dominance or general noise and disturbance.
“The applicant has successfully demonstrated that this scheme is an appropriate form of development in the Green Belt, while there are further very special circumstances to support the proposal due to the likely impact of HS2 and hence the need to replace existing buildings.
“Economically, the proposal will retain rural employment opportunities within the district. Socially, the proposal secures a facility which promotes healthy living.
“The impact of the development on the local highway network has been fully considered and determined to be acceptable.”
