People flocking to Lichfield to see the Olympic torch are being asked to share their experience.
Lichfield District Council will be using Twitter tomorrow (June 30) to keep locals updated with the flame’s progress through the area, as well as sharing photos from along the route.
And now they want local residents to join their efforts.
Councillor Val Richards said: “As the Olympic Torch Relay travels through our city and district, lots of people will be using social media to find out where it is and to share their experience of it after it has passed them.
“We’ll be tweeting on the progress of the Olympic Torch on our Twitter feed at www.twitter.com/lichfield_dc. We would also like lots of people to join us and share their pictures and thoughts about the day, by tweeting using the hashtag #OlympicTorch.”
The Olympic Flame will be visiting the National Memorial Arboretum at around 8.30am, and then travelling through Streethay at approximately 9.14am. It is expected to arrive in Lichfield City at 9.20am. It will then be driven to Hopwas, where Torchbearers will pick up the Flame at approximately 10.08am.
Thousands of people are expected to come to Lichfield City on the day, so the council is keen to once again remind visitors that the roads along the route will be closed to traffic from around 8.30am until the Relay has passed.

Olympic Torch Relay – all times could be subject to change- 8.47am: The Olympic Flame will start its journey in the district at the National Memorial Arboretum. It will then be transported in convoy to Streethay.
- 9.14am: Torchbearers will begin their leg of the Olympic Torch Relay down the A5127 through Streethay.
- 9.20am: The Flame will enter Lichfield via Trent Valley Road. It will be carried through the streets of Lichfield City, passing landmarks along the way, including Market Square, Lichfield Cathedral and Beacon Park. The Flame will then be carried along Upper St John Street and will exit the city where Tamworth Road meets Cricket Lane, from where it will be driven to Hopwas.
- 10.08am: Torchbearers will pick up the Flame and run through the village of Hopwas and on towards Tamworth.
