Residents living near Lichfield are being invited to get creative for a village’s harvest festival scarecrow competition.
The Armitage with Handsacre event will take place at St John the Baptist Church on October 8 from 10am to 5pm.
Lichfield District Council is inviting villagers to make their own scarecrows and to display them in their gardens in the run up to the harvest festival.
Councillor Colin Greatorex said: “If you want to get involved, simply make and name your scarecrow, register it with us, and display it in your garden by September 30. The competition will be judged at the harvest festival on October 8, and there will be prizes for the best scarecrows.”
As part of the day’s festivities, there will be a cake stall, bell ringing, craft demonstrations, photography, flower arranging, face painting, refreshments and more.
Rector David Thomas, of St John the Baptist Church, added: “We hope lots of local people and visitors join us for our harvest festival. It will be a chance to mark the new season, while enjoying browsing the stalls and bumping into friends and neighbours from across the village.”
The Armitage with Handsacre Harvest Festival is being organised by villagers, with support from Lichfield District Council and a number of local groups including St John the Baptist Church, local primary schools, the Women’s Institute, British Legion and Methodist Church.
