Burntwood RUFC’s development squad produced a second half turnaround to beat Eccleshall’s third string 38-14.
Mitch Carless opened the scoring with a penalty, but Eccleshall led at half time courtesy of a converted try from a tapped penalty.
Once the home squad settled they were able to exploit their youth and fitness to find open space. Ben Poulton in particular enjoyed himself with a second half hat trick of tries all scored within 15 minutes of the restart.
The first was from an interception on halfway, the second came from a steal at an Eccleshall line out and the third was from open play and another run in from halfway. Carless converted all three to put his side 24-7 up.
Another long range effort, this time from Nick Peplow, made it 31-7 with Carless’s conversion.
On the hour, Jordan Douglas intercepted for another try under the posts, this time converted by Rob Jones.
Eccleshall scored a consolation converted try inside the last ten minutes to complete the scoring.
