A village pub will be doing its best to support local breweries when it holds a one-day beer festival near Lichfield on February 19.
Eight locally-brewed beers will be on sale at The Fox and Hounds in Shenstone, with local CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) members urging people to support the event.
Landlords Ken and Doreen Gardner said the event would show how many brilliant micro-breweries there are in the region and give people the chance to sample ales they wouldn’t normally get the chance to try. Ken explained:
“In these days of instant this and processed that it is great to see the age-old tradition of beer brewing is still going strong. The problem facing many of these micro-breweries is not having enough outlets at which to sell their products.
“I’m hoping that people will enjoy the beers on offer and then start asking landlords to look at stocking more local brews. It keeps the local economy growing and cuts down on so called food miles so it is also environmentally friendly.”
Adam Randall Lichfield, branch secretary for the Sutton and Tamworth Branch of CAMRA encouraged people to “give ’em a try”. He added:
“You won’t like every beer on offer but you will discover some real gems if you just keep and open mind.”
The festival will run from 12 noon to midnight and CAMRA members will get 50p off each drink if they produce their membership card.
