THE Sheriff of Lichfield has passed on a national baton of responsibility at a ceremony.

Cllr Andrew Fox handed over the honour – which was bestowed on the city last year when the National Association of City and Town Sheriffs of England and Wales (NACTSEW) hosted its annual event – to Lincoln's Sheriff Cllr Darryl Smalley.

The weekend in Lichfield saw visitors from across the country take part in events at the Guildhall, District Council House, the Staffordshire Regiment Museum and the Royal British Legion National Memorial Gardens.

Cllr Fox said:

"It has been a great pleasure to wish Lincoln a wonderful year following on from the success of our term.

"The NACTSEW has once again done a brilliant job in making a pleasant and memorable event.

"All credit to vice-chairman Cllr Colin Greatorex and other committee members for their efforts in arranging the event."

The event will move on to Newcastle-upon-Tyne in 2027 – one of 15 cities and towns in the country to retain its historic Sheriff post.
