It’s easy to forget that the current financial climate doesn’t just hit household name business – something proved by the news that St Mary’s Heritage Centre in Lichfield is having to dip into the rainy day fund.
The centre can only carry on as it is for another three to four years, according to a Lichfield District Council-commissioned report highlighted in the Express & Star.
It would seem that the Centre is dipping into the reserves – which now stand at £117,000 – to the tune of £27,000 a year.
The report is believed to have set out five options to safeguard the Heritage Centre’s future, including relocating the Tourist Information Office to the site.
Hopefully, some serious thought will go into choosing the best option for the future of the site, because the last thing that Lichfield needs is a key tourist site to go belly-up.
