Foster carers in Lichfield and Burntwood have had their allowances increased.
Staffordshire County Council confirmed that carers will now receive between £172 and £631 per week per child.
Cllr Mike Lawrence, cabinet member for children’s wellbeing, said: “Staffordshire County Council’s foster carers already enjoy a comprehensive and unrivalled package of family and individual training and support, so we’re delighted that we’re able to increase the financial support as part of this.
“Very few carers, if any go into fostering for the financial reward, but more people may now be able to consider fostering on a temporary or permanent basis. There are a number of different types of fostering and I would urge people to call our recruitment hotline to find out more.
“Staffordshire really values its foster carers for the second chance they give to children and young people, and this is just another way that we’re showing that.”
There are lots of different types of fostering, including short term care before children are adopted, more long term care, and weekend care to give children and their carers a break. It’s really flexible nowadays and can usually be fitted around your other family and work commitments.
