Communities around Lichfield set to be hit by the new HS2 route have been told that Staffordshire transport chief will fight to get the best deal for them.
Villagers around the city will be impacted after the Government revealed phase two of the high speed rail project to link Birmingham and Manchester.
Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for transport Mike Maryon said the impact on the environment and communities would be “significant”.
“We have worked closely with communities likely to be affected in phase one of HS2 and will be bringing this experience, knowledge and commitment to get the very best outcome for those likely to be affected by this next phase,” he said.
“We need to ensure that any benefits from HS2 are transferred across the county to ‘compensate’ for the impact of the line without any clear and confirmed benefits to Staffordshire residents and our environment.”
