Striker Grant Ryan has confirmed that he has asked to leave Chasetown FC.
The young forward revealed the news on the eve of his side’s FA Trophy quarter-final clash against his former club Mansfield Town.
Ryan is currently in his second spell at the Scholars Ground but has become increasingly frustrated at his lack of game time in recent weeks – and has now demanded a move.
He told The Lichfield Blog:
“I am still a young player learning my trade, but I am not going to learn anything sat on Chasetown’s bench. I know I can play at a higher level, but if I’m out of sight then I’m out of mind.
“I think the time has come to move on. I’m just disappointed that my chances were limited.”
Things had looked bright for Ryan following his decision to make a permanent switch to the Scholars Ground after his release by Mansfield.
The young hitman had been due to sign for Ilkeston Town before they were hit by financial problems and trained with Tamworth before agreeing to return to Chasetown.
However, he has found himself behind Gary Birch, Gary Hay, Dean Perrow and Danny Smith in the pecking order and has seen the arrival of Steve Abbott on loan from Telford diminish his opportunities even further.
But despite his growing frustration, the striker admitted he had enjoyed his time with the club.
He explained:
“Chasetown is a wonderful club with great support and until recently I had really enjoyed being part of it. I would like to thank everyone involved for all they have done for me and wish the blue boys every success in the future.”
Chasetown’s remaining strikers will look to find the target as the Scholars take on Mansfield Town tomorrow (March 1), kick-off 7.45pm. The winners will face Luton Town in a two-legged FA Trophy semi-final.
