The long-awaited work, which will finally see all three platforms become fully accessible, is currently taking place.

Contractors have now installed the framework for the new liftshafts together with the decks which will link the West Coast Main Line platforms with the raised cross city line one.

The £2.3million project is expected to be completed by early summer.

Harpreet Singh-Moore, Network Rail’s project manager, said: “This upgrade will unlock the railway network for many people in and around Lichfield, allowing them easy access to travel that was previously not possible.”
