COUNCIL chiefs say action was taken within hours of an unauthorised development taking place over the bank holiday weekend.
Activity began taking place on private land at Muckley Corner at lunchtime on Saturday 29th August.
Planning enforcement officers from Lichfield District Council served a Temporary Stop Notice later that afternoon, prohibiting further unauthorised activity such as engineering works and bringing additional caravans onto the site.
The council said it was gathering evidence after further activity took place in contravention of the notice, with steps taken to serve an Enforcement Notice requiring the land to be returned to its previous state.
Cllr Richard Cox, cabinet member for community and public protection, said:
"We want Lichfield to be a leading example of a proactive council that responds when it is needed. In this case, we became aware of the development around lunchtime on a Bank Holiday Saturday and formal action had been taken within hours.
"Residents should have confidence that when serious issues arise, we are ready to respond quickly and robustly and will continue to take action as a situation develops."
The council added that officials were continuing to monitor the Muckley Corner site as enforcement action progresses.
It is the latest unauthorised development to take place on local land following a similar incident on Woodhouses Lane in Burntwood over a bank holiday weekend back in April.
