The future of a Lichfield pub has been secured after being sold to Joule’s Brewery.

The company has purchased The Duke of York pub from owners Punch Taverns.

A Joule’s Brewery spokesperson told the Morning Advertiser they were delighted to have purchased the empty pub:

“We are thrilled to have got the keys to the Duke of York, it is an ancient inn and wonderfully preserved as a real classic. We plan to polish it up as our Lichfield brewery house where it will fly the flag for us. Lichfield is on the edge of our core area but still within the hour and Joule’s used to have a presence in the town so we hope it will be warmly received.”

The company is currently in the process of building a new brewery at Market Drayton and plans to reintroduce their own beer after a 30 year absence.

The Duke of York is likely to reopen before the end of the year.
