UKIP say they are determined to “turn Lichfield and Burntwood purple”.
The party will hold an open meeting for those interested in joining at the Kings Head in Lichfield from 7.30pm to 9pm on Wednesday (May 20).
They have been buoyed after the party received 4million votes across the country, while local candidate John Rackham came third after more than doubling their share of the vote from the previous election.
And a UKIP spokesman said the party were not intending to lose traction over the next five years.
“We need councillors, activists, spokespeople, treasurers, businesses – as many people as possible to help us to unseat the Conservatives,” he said.
“Across the country we gained millions of votes. We can’t lose that precious momentum now, so we’re urging people to attend and help us start to turn Lichfield and Burntwood purple.”
The local branch is also keen to shake off the views some people may have of UKIP.
“We are far from a one policy party,” the spokesman added. “We want to stop the privatisation of the NHS and the HS2 vanity project, as well as protecting the Green Belt.
“UKIP also wants to provide comprehensive care for the elderly – something that is lacking in Staffordshire – and bring down tuition fees.
“It’s about putting the common interests of the British people back in their hands instead of just the privileged few.
“The meeting is an opportunity for people to put views across that will shape our planning towards the local elections in 2019 and the general election in 2020.
“This is our moment to shape the people’s party. We know people will answer our call.”
