Thirteen was definitely an unlucky number for Whittington as they took on Stourport at a stormy Eastern Avenue.
Their 13th game of the season saw them start with that number of players as injury and unavailability made it difficult for skipper Martin Hughes to field a full XV.
Under dark skies Stourport opened the scoring as they exposed the spaces and gaps in the hosts defence to cross the try line in the corner. Five minutes later the visitors extended their lead with a mirror image try.
In the 17th minute the Worcestershire side claimed their third try of the afternoon after a great run from deep and jinking past Jamie Burford to make it 21-0.
The heavens opened and in the hailstorm Stourport made sure of the try bonus point as Whittington struggled to cover in defence as well as in the scrum but this changed as Jack Whitmore joined the action for the men in blue and white and immediately bolstered the scrum.
Before half-time Stourport scored a further three tries to make the score 45-0 in changeable conditions.
Any hopes that the visitors might take their foot off the pedal in the second period were soon relinquished as from the kick off an eighth dive over the whitewash saw Whittington heading for their worst defeat of the season.
During the second half a big hailstorm just added to Whit’s woes as Stourport racked up 13 tries and ended with an 83-0 triumph.
Whittington welcome Aldridge to Eastern Avenue on Saturday and will be looking to turn the tide of recent results, kick off 2.15pm.
