Whittington RFC didn’t begin 2015 in the way they hoped after a 17-0 defeat against Chaddesley Corbett.
The game wasn’t the spectacle it could have been as horrible weather conditions confined all of the scoring to the first half.
Blustery conditions at Eastern Avenue dictated play as the men in blue and white faced the side directly above them in the table. The visitors played with the wind for the first forty minutes and the Worcestershire side were camped in the home side’s 22 for the majority of it.
The deadlock was broke on 15 minutes as the visitors took a quick tap penalty and dived over the whitewash for a unconverted try.
Whittington tried to play their way out of defence facing the wind with a couple of good breaks from Paddy Hobson and Ben Hemmings but it was always going to be difficult.
On 20 minutes Chaddesley Corbett extended their lead with a second unconverted try and then just before the break a third try came after good hands by the backs brought a converted try.
The second half saw Whittington have the advantage with the elements, but they were unable to break down the visitors. Hobson was a threat with his pace along with Pete Hughes, who came on the second half.
Whittington travel to league leaders Church Stretton next weekend before entertaining Essington at Eastern Avenue on January 31.
