WHITTINGTON played out a draw in their home clash with Walsall 2nds.
The hosts opted to send the visitors in to bat first – a decision that looked to be the right one as they had the scoreboard reading 27-4 inside ten overs.
But a knock of 66 from Matthew Betty and 62 from Jack Zilch got the Walsall innings back on track.
They eventually reached 221 before being skittled out after 43 overs.
Abdulwali Safi's fine form continued as he topped the bowling charts with figures of 4-67, while Shazad Malik, Robert Powell and Tanvir Ahmed Jibul all grabbed two wickets each as well.
Whittington's hopes of victory were dented in the third over when Malik returned to the pavilion after scoring just two, while Sameer Hussain also departed as the scoreboard reached 17-2 before the end of the fifth over.
Despite a patient knock of 60 from 161 balls by Charlie Bennett – who was in the middle for three-and-a-half hours – the hosts saw their hopes of passing the target disappear.
They reached 175 before the ninth wicket fell, but Powell and Jibul saw out the innings to ensure Whittington were able to secure the draw.
