Chasetown’s bid to end the season with silverware fell at the last hurdle as they lost 4-1 to defending champions Rushall Olympic in the Walsall Senior Cup final.

The National League North side showed their quality as three first-half goals from Jaden Charles, Owen Farmer and Ronan Maher, as well as a 75th minute strike from Kristian Green, cancelled out Danny Glover’s opener for The Scholars.

The Pics looked dangerous early on, as Samuel McLintock hit his chipped cross from the right side of the area just past the far post.

However, it was The Scholars who took the lead just ten minutes in as Jack Langston whipped the ball into the box for former Rushall man Glover to crash the ball into the roof of the net.

Another headed effort from Glover hit the foot of Jacob Weaver’s right post, but the defending champions struck two goals in just three minutes to turn the game on its head.

Charles scored the first for his side with a powerful effort across goal, before Farmer slotted his effort past Bradley Clarkson to make it 2-1.

Walsall loanee Maher then fired home a third after 43 minutes with a low driven effort.

Rushall continued to probe The Scholars defence after the break, as Owen Oseni and Mitchell Clarke both forced saves from Clarkson.

Glover went close to finding Langston with a headed cross that was cleared by Rico Browne, while Luke Yates tested Weaver from close range to earn a corner as Chasetown went in search of a route back into the game.

But Rushall killed off any hope when skipper Green finished off a brilliant move with a strike from the edge of the area.
