YOUNGSTER Alfie Taylor was the hero as Chasetown emerged victorious from their Walsall Senior Cup quarter final clash at Brocton.
The Scholars began brightly with Jack Langston fizzing an early effort just wide of the target.
But the home side retaliated with Will Whieldon going even closer as his strike came back off the upright.
Chasetown thought they should have been awarded a penalty when Joey Buckley rounded the Brocton keeper, but the referee waved away the appeals.
At the other end Matt Sargeant was called into action as he tipped a shot onto the bar.
As the first half drew to a close Buckley saw a powerful drive kept out.
The second period almost saw Brocton take the lead when a misplaced Sergeant pass forced the keeper to make a save before the rebound was cleared off the line.
Chasetown sought to regain some momentum as Tom Thorley headed narrowly over.
But the decisive moment came when Taylor linked up with Kai Cunningham before slotting the ball home to seal the victory.
