An appeal has be launched to find the owners of a lorry trailer dumped in Lichfield.
Lichfield District Council are trying to track down the owners after it was abandoned on Gorse Lane in Fradley during September.
The identity of the trailer, including its number plate, had been removed and it was left full of waste, including tyres, wheels, tarpaulins, and containers full of waste marked hazardous and toxic.
Councillor Louise Flowith, Lichfield District Council’s cabinet member for operational services, said: “Removing and clearing up a trailer of this size could cost the district and county council thousands of pounds.
“It is totally unfair that, in effect, council tax payers will end up funding this, and we are asking for anyone who may have information about the trailer to contact us.”
The trailer is now in storage, while the council arranges specialist contractors to examine and remove the waste.
“Fly-tipping is a criminal offence, punishable with a fine of up to £50,000 or six months in prison,” added Cllr Flowith. “If you have any information about the trailer, please contact us by calling 01543 308999 or report it on online at www.lichfielddc.gov.uk/reportit.”
