James Lant and Anna Riley created pop-up food business The English Indian in 2015.

It has since gone on to win awards and become a popular feature at a number of events, such as the Digbeth Dining Club.

Now the couple’s efforts will reach an even bigger audience as Square – the online payments company set up by Twitter chief executive Jack Dorsey – is using The English Indian in a new campaign.

The campaign will raise the profile of the business, but James admits they’ve put the hard work in to get the business noticed – particularly when it came to joining the Digbeth Dining Club line-up.

Fearing their application might get lost among the number of traders wanting a pitch, The English Kitchen decided to go one step further.

James said: “All we wanted was for them to taste our food.

“Finally, Jack – the founder of Digbeth Dining Club – said he was in attendance the following Friday and we should go and meet him. We went armed with camping stove, pans and ingredients, spoke to a lovely trader who allowed us to perch behind her gazebo, and we cooked up our Kati rolls.

“We presented these to Jack and his colleagues, which they all devoured, and the rest, they say is ‘history’.”
