CHASETOWN assistant manager Jamie Hawkins was full of praise for his players after their FA Trophy victory over rivals Hednesford Town.
The Scholars claimed a 2-1 win over their local rivals in front of a crowd of more than 1,350 spectators at Keys Park to secure a place in the Third Qualifying Round of the competition.
Goals from Jack Langston and Joey Butlin secured the victory.
Hawkins said:
“These are the games that you want to play in. You want to come and play in front of big crowds, at good stadiums and against good players.
“We’re really pleased with the result. It was similar to when we came to Hednesford in the league – we came with a clear game plan, and I think our lads have acquitted themselves very well.
“We had to contain Hednesford first and foremost and then try to control the game. In periods we more than matched them and I think over the 90-minute period we were worthy winners.
“We set out to win games of football. We hope that it doesn’t matter if it’s a league game or a cup game – we try to hit our own standards week in, week out and the more often we do that, the more games we’ll win.”
Hawkins and his players will be back in action tomorrow evening (24th September) at The Scholars Ground as they host Witton Albion.
Chasetown are one point behind the 11th placed visitors, who sit three places above them in the Northern Premier League West, but still hold a game in hand.
Witton lost 2-1 at home to early season front-runners Bootle in their last outing.
