Burglars target elderly Burntwood man in his own home

Raiders tied up an elderly Burntwood man in his own home while they took his cash and jewellery.

The Norton Lane burglary was carried out by two men at 10.15pm on Saturday (September 1).

The victim – who is in his 70s – suffered superficial injuries but did not need hospital treatment.

DC Chris Alford said: “This was an unusual and rare crime where the offenders appear to have deliberately targeted this property. Thankfully, he was not seriously injured but was left badly shaken.

“We’ve launched a thorough investigation, including scene of crime and house to house inquiries, and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.”

One of the offenders is described as white, slim, clean shaven, aged around 28 with an athletic appearance and dark eyes. He wore dark clothing and a black woollen hat.

Witnesses can ring DC Alford at Staffordshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 906 of 1 September. Alternatively, they can ring independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
