Burglars targeting homes and vehicles in Lichfield and Burntwood

Houses in Lichfield and Burntwood are being targeted by burglars.

Police say an intruder forced open a garage door to steal alcohol and cash from a house on Fair Lady Drive in Burntwood on Monday night (July 28), while an unlocked patio door on Lea Hall drive saw a raider take the keys to a silver Vauxhall Astra van and steal it.

Officers say there have also been a number of thefts and attempted thefts from insecure vehicles on Littleton Way and Lea Hall Drive.

Inspector Rachel Joyce, Commander of Lichfield Local Policing Team, said: “We are appealing for the public’s help in tracing this offender and in preventing him from striking again.

“Leaving doors and windows open makes the job of a thief or a burglar very easy. The two burglaries overnight were carried out by someone who used insecure doors to gain entry. A few seconds making sure that your external doors and your internal door to your garage is locked could save you from being burgled.

“The easiest way for someone to steal a car is to steal the keys. Don’t leave your keys on display or within easy reach if you’re not around. Better still, take them up with you when you go to bed.”

Anyone with any information is asked to ring 101 quoting incident 82 of 29 July or, to remain anonymous, contact in dependent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111
