THE owner of a Burntwood business has launched a new partnership to support local food banks.
Baxters Food Group, which runs the Manor Vinegar plant in the town, has teamed up with Trussell Trust.
The link-up with the charity behind more than 1,400 food bank sites across the country comes as demand for emergency food parcels rose by 69% in five years.
The funding being provided by Baxters in the first year of the partnership will support projects that provide tailored advice on money matters and help for people facing hunger and hardship, as well as supporting the Trussell Trust’s general body of work.
Zoe Pate, head of corporate partnerships at Trussell Trust, said:
“Food banks are a lifeline for many but they are stretched to breaking point trying to help increasing numbers of people on the lowest incomes.
“The support from Baxters will help make sure that people who can’t afford life’s essentials have continued access to tailored financial advice, where specialised advisors help maximise income, and additional support.
“We are delighted to launch this partnership and are so thankful to Baxters for their support.”
Katy Baxter, European head of marketing at Baxters Food Group, said:
“We are very proud to work in partnership with Trussell Trust, which undertakes tremendous work right across the UK supporting people experiencing hunger and hardship.
“We are inspired by the work carried out by Trussell Trust and its community of food banks to provide immediate help to people who can’t afford life’s essentials, but also the wider, holistic approach which aims to understand what is driving people to need a food bank and make sure systems to support people on the lowest incomes are fit for purpose.”
