A Burntwood councillor has warned that cuts to Lichfield District Council services could have a serious impact on local communities.
The local authority is set to finalise savings drawn up as part of the Fit for the Future review at a meeting this evening (July 9).
The council needs to save £1.7million to cover a shortfall in its budget and a number of community services face the axe.
Now Labour opposition councillor Eric Drinkwater has warned that short-term savings could have long-term implications.
“Community is important and these services have taken a long time to evolve,” he said.
“The most vulnerable in our communities will be affected – those people who cannot fight back.”
Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet has already recommended the removal of the threat to the community transport sector, but a number of other areas are likely to face the chop, with the future of facilities such as the Jigsaw community hub on Dimbles Lane at risk.
