The leader of Burntwood Town Council has said connections with other authorities are important, as councillors decide whether to reverse a decision not to join a county association.
A previous move not to renew membership of the Staffordshire Parish Councils Association will be debated this evening (June 18).
The move was made after councillors saw “insufficient benefit” in the £1,428 annual subscription fee.
But now the Tory led Burntwood Town Council will now look again at the move following a meeting between leader Cllr Richard Mosson, Cllr Helen Fisher and Cllr Heather Tranter and the authority’s clerk.
Cllr Mosson said: “Going forward, it could be important to be part of that association.
“It involves other parishes in the county and district and is a good forum for us to be involved with, as well as being a good sounding board for us.
“We already have strong links with the district and county council and with a lot of parishes, so membership of the association is another case of being actively involved with all the other authorities around us.
“We want to broaden that and keep in touch with other parishes on different issues as we’re all in this together.”
A report ahead of tonight’s meeting of the authority’s policy and resources committee said that benefits including access to training as well as advice and updates on amended legislation may mean membership should be taken up.
Tonight’s meeting – to be held at Burntwood Library at 7pm – will also recommend whether or not to continue with a £595 annual payment for the council’s Facebook and Twitter accounts to be maintained and updated.
