Students in Burntwood gained an insight into the world of journalism as part of a nationwide project.

BBC School Report Day saw a number of pupils at Chasetown Specialist Sports College write articles to be published on their school’s website.

As well as writing their articles, the students were responsible for deciding their news agenda for the day as well as carrying out interviews with teachers and other pupils about the big issues of the day.

In an interview with the students as part of BBC School Report Day, headteacher Bernice Astling said:

“I think that the project is brilliant idea and from what I have heard it’s been great and helps the students improve on their creative writing. It has increased their understanding of how to improve writing, ask questions and observe real reporters.

“I hope that the project continues as it is a great success.”

More than 30,000 young people from all over the UK took part in this year’s event.
