STAFF and volunteers at St Giles Hospice have been given a sweet treat to help them keep cool in the warm weather.
Midlands-based Pretty Parlour Ice Cream Co sent its van to the Whittington-based charity’s headquarters to hand out free ice creams earlier today (17th June).
Georgia Haynes, partnerships manager at St Giles Hospice, said:
“We are always amazed and so grateful to those who go out of their way to support St Giles.
“Seeing our colleagues enjoying their ice creams and smiling through the heat has been heartwarming.
“Our teams always go the extra mile, and this generous gesture was a wonderful way to say thank you.”
Delia Gaughan, owner of Pretty Parlour Ice Cream Co, said:
“After seeing close friends face cancer, we’ve been reminded of how vital hospice and palliative care is.
“I wanted to give ice creams out to hospice staff and volunteers for free to give something back to these wonderful people who are always working so hard to help others.
“It’s a small gesture, but one that I hope helped brighten their day.”
Hospice colleagues were able to take a short, much-needed break and enjoy their icy delights. One member of staff said: “It was such a thoughtful and unexpected treat. It really lifted everyone’s spirits on such a hot day. We’re so grateful for the kindness.”
St Giles Hospice spends close to £10 million a year providing their specialist services. With just 18% of this funded by the Government, the charity relies heavily on donations and income generation from the local community to continue its vital care.
