Buyers battle it out at auction for video games collection

Buyers have levelled up to get their hands on a collection of video games after they were sold by a Lichfield auctioneer.

BUYERS have levelled up to get their hands on a collection of video games after they were sold by a Lichfield auctioneer.

The Japanese role-playing games (RPG) fetched £1,980 when they were sold by Richard Winterton Auctioneers this week.

The games were for PlayStation and Nintendo consoles. Titles included Castlevania Symphony Of The Night from 1997, with the European PAL version including audio CD and art book selling at £340.

Also popular were Persona 1 from 1996 and Persona 2 from 2000 – both North American NTSC format games that never released in Europe.Eeach sold separately at auction for £260.

A spokesperson for Richard Winterton Auctioneers said:

“These classics included some of the most-loved video games of all time. It’s a very impressive collection from someone who had very good taste in games.

“There is a hot market at auction for all types of vintage video games to modern consoles, systems, headsets and controllers.”
