Staffordshire Police have today (Tuesday 7 February) opened public voting for their online photograph competition.
Twenty photos, which have been submitted by members of the public and incorporate the numbers ‘101’, have been short listed by a panel of judges.
The shortlist has now been posted onto the force’s Facebook site for public voting though ‘Likes’. The photo which has the highest number of ‘Likes’ by noon on 1 March will be the overall winner.
Chief Inspector Mark Riley, from the force’s Operational Communications Department, said: “The competition has proved a great success amongst budding photographers in Staffordshire, with some really innovative shots.
“We wish the best of luck to everybody who has made the shortlist.”
There are three prizes – one winner’s prize, a Jaguar 240 Police Car Model 1:18 scale, and two runners up prizes, a Jaguar MK2 3.8 and a Jaguar X16 Series 1 4.2, which were donated to the force.
The winning photographs will then be used by the force to help promote the 101 number.
CI Riley added: “The introduction of the 101 number in November 2011 means communities have one easy way to contact their local police force to report non-emergency crime and disorder. It’s the biggest change in the way that the public contact the police since the 999 system was introduced nearly 70 years ago.
“Since its launch, 101 has been well received by the public.”
In an emergency, the public should continue to call 999, such as when a crime is in progress, when there is danger to life or when violence is being used or threatened.
