A CHARITY is hoping a review will help prevent future tragedies following the death of a five-week-old baby in Burntwood.
Sean Jefferson, 25 and of Walsall, was this week sentenced to 22 years in prison after being convicted of murdering his daughter Darcy in March 2022.
The baby’s mother, Amy Leigh Clark, 34 and of Lichfield, was sentenced to seven years in jail after being convicted of causing or allowing the death of her child and two counts of causing or allowing serious physical harm.
A police investigation revealed Darcy died as a result of a catastrophic head injury.
But it was not an isolated incident, with the youngsters also having been found to have suffered 47 fractured ribs and fractures to both legs. Medical evidence confirmed these were the result of deliberate violence.
An NSPCC spokesperson said:
“Like all babies, Darcy relied on the adults around her to provide a safe and loving environment. Instead, Jefferson brutally assaulted his little daughter on several occasions before murdering her, while Clark failed to intervene.
“Our thoughts go out to everyone who knew and loved Darcy during her short life.
“It is now vital that any learnings identified in the review of this terrible case are acted on as quickly as possible to help prevent future tragedies.”
The charity’s spokesperson added:
