CHASETOWN came out on top in a thrilling midweek encounter with Wythenshawe Town.

The Scholars got off to a bright start when Joey Butlin’s free-kick took a deflection, forcing visiting keeper Gregory Hall into a crucial save.

Moments later, Jordan Evans delivered a cross to the back post where Oli Hayward was poised to head it home, but the ball just evaded him.

The breakthrough came when Danny Glover finished a Butlin cross to give Chasetown the lead.

Glover went close again in the second half when he nodded just wide, while new signing Tom Thorley also fired an effort just past the upright.

In the closing moments, Danny O’Callaghan doubled his side’s lead when Hall hesitated in goal allowing the Chasetown man to net and seal a fine victory for The Scholars.
