Members of the Lichfield Cathedral congregation have been finding out more about the work being carried out on the historic building.
More than 200 people were given tours of the site as well as briefings on the restoration works being carried out to the East End of the Cathedral.
The events were held on five days throughout the summer and autumn of 2010 and gave members of the congregation the chance to go beyond the covered screen of the Lady Chapel, visit the mason’s yard and climb the external scaffolding to get a closer look at the repair work.
Back on the ground, the Dean of Lichfield, the Very Revd Adrian Dorber, and architect Robert Kilgour, completed the days with a question and answer session and a viewing of the DVD, The Race to Save the Herkenrode Glass.
The Very Revd Adrian Dorber said:
“The briefings were a great opportunity for our congregation to see the incredible restoration work that has been carried out on the East End of Lichfield Cathedral. It is now that the hard work really begins, as the Cathedral continues to raise funds to restore the Herkenrode glass it its original glory.”
