The Conservatives have held on to the Fazeley ward.
Doug Pullen polled 423 votes in the by-election to see off Labour challenger Dave Whatton who secured 375 votes.
The hold will be a welcome boost for the controlling Tory Group on Lichfield District Council, after unveiling plans to make £1.7million of cuts.
The new Fazeley councillor said after the result: “Thanks to all for their help, support and advice.”
