A NEW health centre is about to take an important step forward, a county councillor has said.
The long-awaited scheme has been earmarked for the land at the former youth centre site at Cherry Close in Burntwood.
A planning application is now due to be submitted on 31st July, Cllr Robin Hall said.
The Reform UK representative for Burntwood South and cabinet member for economy and skills at Staffordshire County Council said that if approval is granted, construction is expected to start early next year.
He said:
"This is another important step forward for a project that Burntwood residents have waited a long time to see delivered.
"I have received a further update from officers confirming that the planning application is still expected to be submitted on 31st July.
"The project remains on track, with construction anticipated to begin in spring 2027 and completion targeted for September 2028.
"I will continue working closely with the project team and our health partners to maintain momentum, resolve any issues and ensure residents receive clear and accurate updates as the scheme progresses.
"There is still considerable work ahead, but the important message is that the new Burntwood health centre remains on track."
