LICHFIELD City exited the Midland Football League Cup at the quarter final stage after defeat at AFC Wulfrunians.

Ivor Green’s men found themselves 2-0 down in the first half before Jordan Clement pulled one back just before the break.

But two more strikes for the home side meant Sonny Sheasby’s late effort for Lichfield was nothing more than a consolation.

The first real chance of note saw Wulfrunians go ahead as Freddie Cockerell nodded home from close range after 12 minutes.

Kieran Francis headed over the bar as City went in search of a leveller – but the second goal went to the home side as a curling shot from Tui Sanches beat Adam Harrison.

Lichfield gave themselves hope before half time though as Clement powered a half-volley into the top corner from the edge of the box.

City rang the changes with three subs at half time, but found themselves 3-1 down on 55 minutes when another curling Sanches effort found the net.

Things went from bad to worse on the hour as Jay Holdcroft added Wulfrunians’ fourth.

Sheasby bundled the ball home to make it 4-2 with eight minutes left on the clock, but it was too little too late for City.
