The developers working on a £5million project to convert Lichfield’s former cinema into apartments say they are determined to ensure it retains the character of the city.
The Old Picture House will sit on the site of the former Regal Cinema on Tamworth Street.
The building later became a supermarket and a nightclub before falling into disrepair.
Much of the building has been demolished already, although the cinema’s facade is being retained and integrated into the new development of 38 apartments.
A spokesperson for contractor QTDS, which is carrying out the work on behalf of Somerton Jones and Lodge Park Homes, said: “Lichfield is known as a beautiful cathedral city, so it is important that the development is in keeping with the local vernacular.
“The surrounding buildings to these new apartments are grade two listed and the building will be keeping its façade.”
The development will also include retail space and covered car parking.
