Part of a major route out of Lichfield has been closed after heavy snowfall brought down trees.

Staffordshire County Council confirmed that the A51 near Brereton would be closed for “much of the weekend” as workers deal with fallen and unstable trees.

A spokesperson said: “Although tree surgeons have removed three fallen trees, it is feared others may topple on to the carriageway due to the weight of snow.”

Diversions past the closure are in place.
