The family of a man killed by his partner in Lichfield have paid tribute to the people who tried to save his life.
Mark Cannon, 44, died after being stabbed by Nicola Coleman in September 2008.
The 40-year-old has been handed a hospital order under section 37 and a restriction order under section 41 of the Mental Health Act after being found guilty at Stafford Crown Court.
The court heard how the couple had been in a relationship for 14 years when the incident happened.
After Mark staggered from Coleman’s home with a serious stab wound to his chest, neighbours battled to help save his life, but he later died as a result of blood loss.
A statement from Mark’s family said they hoped the verdict would help bring them closure.
“We miss Mark more than we can say,” they said. “To lose him in these circumstances was a huge shock and we have had to adjust to a new life without him.
“Throughout this time, we have been supported all the way by friends, family and Staffordshire Police and we would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone publicly.
“We are also grateful to the neighbours and members of the emergency services who tried to save Mark on that fateful evening. We appreciate the efforts you made.
“Today’s verdict will not bring Mark back to us, but it does bring to a close a very painful process.”
